Steel pan soloist, percussionist, arranger, educator and vocalist Dex Marchan offers entertainment for events and functions of all kinds from calypso, reggae, jazz and soul, to the latest pop, standards and ballads.
Dex began playing Steel Pans in Trinidad and Tobago over 38 yrs ago. He have performed with a number of steel bands at numerous events and festivals, including the prestigious National Panorama, with winning bands Phase 2 and Pan Elders. Also, the Steel band Music Festival with Skiffle and Super Vybes. Some of his highlights are playing at the Trinidad and Tobago High Commission, the Princess Cruise ship, the Queen’s jubilee, Regent’s Street World festival, Chelsea flower show, The World Travel Market and 606 Club to name a few. He has toured France, England, Scotland, Ireland, Wales, Spain, Italy, Holland, Istanbul, Guernsey, the USA and the Caribbean.
Dex is base in London where he has played with Stardust, CSI, and Metronomes at the Notting Hill carnival and Juma, Tropical Heatwave Steel band with freelance musicians.
Dex has a Grade 5 in music theory and has studied Artist Diploma in Music Performance at the University of Trinidad and Tobago. He also studied Home Recording Music Production at Morley's College in London. Dex has taught at San Fernando Boys' RC and Grant Memorial Pres school in Trinidad in 2016 to 2017.
Dex has put on music therapy workshops at care homes in London where the residents participated in playing and dancing to the sweets steelpan music.
Events and workshops in school are themed around steelpan history, teambuilding, music theory and practical.
Dex usually play solo, but can put together freelance musicians to form duets, trios etc., for any event that just wants great entertainment!
